In your beginner ski lesson, you’ll be introduced to the world of skiing in a friendly, supportive environment. The lesson will begin with a fitting of your gear—skis, boots, and poles—so your instructor can ensure everything is comfortable and properly adjusted. Once you’re geared up, you’ll start with basic movements on flat terrain to get a feel for how to glide and balance.
The instructor will guide you step by step through fundamental skills such as how to properly stand in your skis, how to move forward using a gentle “push” motion, and how to stop safely using the snowplow technique (also known as the “pizza”). You’ll practice this technique, as it’s crucial for controlling speed and maintaining balance.
Once you’re comfortable on flat ground, the instructor will take you to a gentle, beginner-friendly slope. Here, you’ll start learning how to control your skis while going downhill, mastering the basic skill of turning and stopping with control. You’ll also work on how to get up after a fall, which is a vital part of skiing.
Throughout the lesson, the focus will be on building your confidence and teaching you how to move at your own pace. The instructor will give you plenty of personal attention, offering tips and encouragement to help you progress. You’ll also be introduced to ski etiquette and how to safely navigate around others on the slopes.
By the end of your lesson, you’ll feel more comfortable and confident on skis, having learned basic techniques that will help you enjoy future lessons and start exploring more of the mountain!
